What Actually are Dedicated Hosting Servers?
When we talk about hosting web servers, there are three main types - shared hosting servers, VPS (private virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated hosting servers. Shared web servers accommodate multiple customers and hence the system resources per account are limited, virtual private server accounts give you more configuration liberty, but also influence other private virtual hosting servers on the hardware node if utilized heedlessly, and dedicated servers offer you the autonomy to perform everything you like without messing with anyone else.
Why would you need a dedicated hosting server?
Dedicated servers are generally much more high-priced than shared web hosting servers or private virtual hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is pretty simple. If your company has a high resource-consuming web page, or simply has very precise web server setup requirements, the smartest option is a dedicated server. For somebody who is ready to invest in safety and stability, the greater price is of no importance. You are given complete root-level access and can utilize 100 percent of the dedicated hosting web server's system resources without anyone else availing of these system resources and intervening with your online portals.
Most web hosting service providers, incl. us at Ameriline Hosting, offer several different hardware architectures you can choose from in accordance with your demands. The configurations offer different types of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and server disk drive sizes and different web traffic usage quotas. You can pick a web hosting Control Panel, which is a convenient GUI if you would like to use the dedicated hosting web server for website hosting purposes only and prefer not to use SSH for all the modifications you will be making. We provide three sorts of web hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The web hosting CP of your preference
If you are a self-assured Linux user (our web hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could administer your dedicated server via an SSH terminal exclusively. That, however, could be awkward, particularly if you wish to give full server root access to someone else who has less technical abilities than yourself. This is why having hosting Control Panel software installed is a good idea. The Hepsia Control Panel interface that we offer does not include complete root-level access and is chiefly suitable for somebody who maintains multiple online portals that swallow plenty of system resources, but would rather manage the web pages, databases and electronic mail accounts via an easy-to-use hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, grant root privileges and include three access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting plans rather than utilizing the web server just for yourself, you should choose one of these two.
Web server monitoring and backup procedures
Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated hosting server and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your dedicated server, such as an unresponsive Apache or a network downtime, it is good to have some kind of monitoring system activated. Here at Ameriline Hosting the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated hosting server too. Backups are also a bonus feature - the web hosting vendor offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would allow you to have the same data on 2 hard disk drives as a protective measure in the event of a server hard disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted full root-level access erases something by accident.
